A patch antenna (PA) is one of the most popular antennas of this wireless communication era. Patch antenna is used in various applications of wireless communication systems. However, nowadays, artificial magnetic conductor (AMC) metamaterial has grabbed every potential researcher’s attention towards with its main property that it behaves as a perfect magnetic conductor (PMC), which is fictitious. Embedding it with patch antenna yields improved performance with miniaturization of the entire structure, which broadens the area of application. In this paper, a miniaturized, high polarization purity, AMC-backed microstrip antenna has been designed. The proposed antenna resonates at 643 MHz with gain of 6.8 dBi with 19 dB CP-XP isolation (polarization purity). This frequency is useful for underwater communication.
