Suppression of Electromagnetic Emission in Electric Vehicle for EMC

The Electric Vehicles (EVs) are encouraging transportation option for the contemporary and future days. The EVs however suffer from Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) issue. This demands clampdown of Electromagnetic (EM) emission impinging in EV. This paper focuses on analysis of EM emission due to Electric Drive System (EDS) and suppression by filtering and optimization by use of efficient PWM technique. The existing model involves EM emission suppression by filtering at the inverter front end. The proposed model has been analyzed using two cases: case 1 involves comparison of existing front-end filtering with proposed back-end and front- and back-end filtering techniques; case 2 involves comparison of inverter PWM technique along with front-end filtering for optimization of EM emission suppression. The SPWM and SVPWM are chosen because the SPWM has low core loss, higher efficiency, and easy to implement while SVPWM has lower harmonic distortion and better voltage utilization. The proposed model gives optimized suppression when SVPWM technique is used for inverter unit. The EDS reduces emission to 60 dBμV when SPWM is implemented while the EDS reduces emission to 52 dBμV when SVPWM is implemented along with front-end filtering. MATLAB-SIMULINK software is used for the simulation purpose.
