A Blockchain-Based Secure Framework for Storage and Access of Surveillance Video Data

In the current era, technological enhancement has led to an amelioration in the standard of living. Among the multitude of technological innovations, the deployment of a video surveillance system proves beneficial in terms of monitoring and ensuring security. In a video surveillance system, a surveillance camera records 24 \(\times \) 7 videos of a surveillance site and processes them for live streaming and storage. Traditional surveillance systems store extensive video data on a centralized server, often prone to video eavesdropping and tampering attacks. To overcome these issues, we have proposed a novel blockchain-based secure framework for storing and accessing surveillance video data. We preserve the confidentiality and immutability of video data through chaotic map-based encryption and blockchain, respectively. We use the InterPlanatory File System (IPFS) to store the encrypted video data, and subsequently, the CID (content identifier) obtained from IPFS is stored in the blockchain platform. The proposed model suggests that the legitimate users can access the video and play the same on an online video platform rather than download the whole video to the user’s local systems. The proposed mechanism is proficient in storing and retrieving surveillance video data within the framework of security aspects.
