The conspicuous brown algal genus Sargassum is widely distributed in temperate to tropical regions of the world. It is commercially utilized for the production of alginate, mannitol, liquid seaweed fertilizer, and biostimulants. Besides, it has traditionally been utilized as food; species like Sargassum fulvellum and Sargassum thunbergii are edible and contain high concentrations of proteins, amino acids, minerals, fatty acids, vitamins, and a variety of bioactive compounds with anti-inflammatory, anticancer, anti-obesity, and antioxidant properties. Despite its economic value, it has been commercially cultivated only in the People’s Republic of China, the Republic of Korea, and Japan. This chapter discusses the various techniques employed in Sargassum cultivation to date as well as new interventions made in seedling production.
