The issue “Why agriculture happened” is always hotly debated, whereas “why agriculture did not happen” is not even considered a question. Contemporary archaeological research rarely delves into the explanation of stability of cultural systems. When discussing the origins of the Industrial Revolution, not only its development in Europe is examined but also the absence of industrialisation in other regions is explored.
