This chapter describes propagation of sound through a duct, with particular reference to air-conditioning ducts which represent the most common use case for these procedures. It covers generation of sound from fans and from other items in the duct; attenuation by duct lining, silencers and other methods and calculation of the sound power entering a receiving space. Associated spreadsheets provide ways to automate the calculations.
