摘要

Throughout the history of industrial revolutions, Mechanics has played a relevant role and has contributed with knowledge and technologies to the development of humanity. Mechanics and its disciplinary fields represent strong support for Industry 4.0, and mechanical engineers must be educated and trained under the paradigm of Engineering Education 4.0 so that they can accompany industries in the technological challenges of the fourth industrial revolution. In this chapter, some relationships between Mechanics and its main technologies and the industrial revolutions of the past and present are discussed. In addition, the definitions of Mechanics 4.0 and Mechanical Engineering 4.0 are studied. The relationships of Mechanical Engineering with Cyber-Physical Systems, Artificial Intelligence, and Digital Twins are presented. Two schemes related to Mechanics 4.0 and Education in Mechanics 4.0 that can be used for the development of educational projects are described. Some recommendations for the design of Mechanical Engineer competencies are described.
