The period between eighth and fourteenth centuries of Indian history has received inadequate attention from scholars and historians. This has happened due to two reasons: firstly writing histories which are DelhiDelhi" \i-centric and secondly disregard to vernacularVernacularlanguages, literature" \i sources. It was only recently that vernacularVernacularlanguages, literature" \i sources started to receive importance as credible sources that can be utilized to write history. This paper attempts to write history of MewarMewar" \i by using vernacularVernacularlanguages, literature" \i textual and inscriptional sources. This period of transition that has been regarded by some as dark ages was rather a period of state formation for the house of Mewar. The paper will unearth and bring to light various inscriptions that are hardly used by scholars of Indian history. Mewar witnessed significant changes in this period and became a formidable power in northwestern India. This royal lineage that latter challenged the Mughals in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries ruled from southeastern parts of RajasthanRajasthan from ChittorChittor and then Udaipur. Mewar thrived in this period culturally and economically. Various temples were built by the ruling power. We will witness that adherent of different religions such as JainismJainism, SaivismSaivism and BuddhismBuddhism" \i stayed peacefully under the banner of Mewar.
