In computer vision and image processing, object detection and recognition is the process of detecting specific objects from input digital images or videos. It has a wide range of applications like surveillance systems, automated vehicle systems, machine inspection, content-based image retrieval, face detection, pedestrian detection, recognizing fire from forest, etc. In our proposed work, a novel time efficient parallel approach has been applied for library stock verification, i.e., detect and recognize barcodes pasted on the cover page from book images. Barcodes are recognized in parallel by mapping the pool of workers for the barcode detection. The experimental results show that the time complexity of both sequential and parallel execution is lesser than the time required for the manual scan of barcodes from book images.
