AI-Driven Design Future: Preparing the Design Learner in an Era of Artificial Intelligence
摘要
Artificial intelligence is rapidly evolving and fundamentally transforming the landscape of the design industry, with examples of being used to automate tasks, generate new design concepts, and improve the user experience. This research paper critically examines AI’s impact on the design workflow, providing a framework for design learners that enables them to proactively prepare for these shifts. By examining the historical relationship of AI and design, the study seeks to look into the future landscape of this dynamic relationship. AI has a longstanding history in design, dating back to the 1970s with CAD software. However, recent strides in machine learning have revolutionized its role, enabling diverse tasks, leading to the development of AI-powered design tools. The paper reflects on the harmonious collaboration between human designers and AI and how designers can make their workflow much more efficient with AI. After learning about the shaping of design processes and current practices, the paper looks at the take of design learners, on AI and learning about AI. The research places an onus on design learners to cultivate a profound understanding of AI, continually updating their knowledge to leverage its capabilities. We aim to provide a foundation instilling a culture of adaptability and ensuring their preparedness for the future design industry.
