The objective of this study is to highlight and draw lessons from the economic and finance model of a hitherto charitable organization responding to the distressed conditions of poor peasants in a province constantly threatened by risks arising from natural calamities, exploitative practices of landlords and traders, and not so responsible local governance. Realizing the un-sustainability of its benevolent activities, the charitable organization re-organized into a cooperative and adopted the triple bottom line goals of people (community engagement), planet (ecological conservation), and profit (economic and financial sustainability).

摘要

The objective of this study is to highlight and draw lessons from the economic and finance model of a hitherto charitable organization responding to the distressed conditions of poor peasants in a province constantly threatened by risks arising from natural calamities, exploitative practices of landlords and traders, and not so responsible local governance. Realizing the un-sustainability of its benevolent activities, the charitable organization re-organized into a cooperative and adopted the triple bottom line goals of people (community engagement), planet (ecological conservation), and profit (economic and financial sustainability).
