摘要
The French textile and clothing industry (TLC) has been an important pillar of the national economy since the nineteenth century and has had a significant impact on global fashion. Despite its historical importance, the sector has faced challenges since the beginning of the twenty-first century, including a decline in production and employment due to automation and globalisation, complex supply chains and environmental impacts. In 2021, 2.8 billion TLC products were placed on the French market, highlighting the need to promote reuse and recycling to reduce waste, conserve resources and limit emissions. In France, the TLC sector is managed by an eco-organisation named Re_fashion, which ensures that companies meet their waste management obligations, including prevention, collection, sorting and recovery of end-of-life products. This study examines how French TLC companies integrate sustainability and circular economy (CE) practices through digital technologies. The analysis of the 10 SMEs with highest scores, based on the Moralscore French online platform, reveals key sustainability strategies, including local production, transparency and the use of more sustainable materials. France can thus be considered one of the European leaders in the adoption of CE, thanks to measures such as Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), eco-design and consumer awareness initiatives. Lastly, digital technologies such as AI, IoT and 3D printing are supporting the transformation of the industry, optimising resources and reducing waste in this sector. By focusing on responsible production, sustainability and CE principles, the French TLC industry can reduce its environmental footprint and move towards a more sustainable future.
