This chapter sets out to explore the extent to which the first wife and her family experienced deterioration in their financial situation due to the marriage of her husband to a second wife. It discusses findings from both statistical analyses of data collected via questionnaires as well as in-depth interviews with those husbands, first wives and their children who were willing to be interviewed.
