Broad bean is a cool-season annual legume and a dual purpose as vegetable and pulse crop. High nutritional quality viz., protein, minerals, vitamins, bioactive compounds, and stress resilience nature of broad beans made it popular worldwide. Though this crop is native to the Near East and China, but wide adaptability and popularity of broad beans created a wide range of variation in cultivated areas. Multipurpose use of broad bean as food, fodder, and climate resilience traits made this crop unique and important for achieving sustainable development goals (SDGs) of alleviating poverty and malnutrition. The collection of germplasm, conservation, and its utilization for the development of improved varieties by combining traditional and next-generation sequencing approaches is needed worldwide.
