Calibrated AMS radiocarbon determinations on human bone samples allow us to estimate that ‘Liangdao Man 1’ (M01) likely lived between 8330 and 8050 cal BP (see Appendix A: 14, 17), and ‘Liangdao Man 2’ (M02) between 7620 and 7570 cal BP (see Appendix A: 15, 16). The dates also confirm that the site itself is the earliest known site in the Matsu Islands, and that these two individuals can also be counted among the rare examples of early Neolithic burials found along the coast of southeast China and Southeast Asia in recent years.
