The Design and Development of a Simulation System for Urban Rail Transit Line Train Operation

In recent years, with the acceleration of urbanization in China, many cities have chosen to build subways as transportation facilities to alleviate urban traffic congestion and air pollution. This is due to their high capacity, energy efficiency, and safety. Previously, there was a lack of a refined tool to evaluate the feasibility of the subway operation plans after they were formulated. This paper utilizes planned operation charts as a reference and simulates the train operation process, taking into account constraints such as train traction and braking performance, line profile, and station layout. The aim is to verify the feasibility of the operation charts. The paper first designs a simulation model for single train interval operation, based on train traction calculation theory. Then, a simulation model for train group tracking is designed, based on the CBTC (Communication-Based Train Control) moving block theory. Based on the line information map, the train operation’s line environment is constructed, including curves, gradients, and infrastructure equipment. A train line operation simulation platform is subsequently built using the Java programming language. Finally, the platform is used to simulate the Beijing Subway Line 8, accurately representing the status of trains, switches, tracks, and platform screen doors every second. The results show that the simulation system has high accuracy and reliability.
