The ice coating on the transmission lines is prone to giving rise to flashover along the surface, and even resulting in the toppling of the tower in severe instances, which poses a significant threat to the secure operation of the power grid. Herein, a dual active and passive anti-icing strategy has been devised. The active deicing is realized via the photothermal effect, while the passive anti-icing is based on superhydrophobicity. The prepared sample demonstrate a high contact angle of 162° and a low rolling-off angle of 4°. The hierarchical structure of candle ash gives the surface excel-lent photothermal deicing performance. Through sunlight, the ice could be quick-ly melted and the melted ice water can flow away naturally without damaging the superhydrophobic surface. This combination of active and passive anti-icing strategies presents a reference for the present anti-icing and deicing methods employed in transmission lines.
