The voltage instability has become a critical problem in modern power systems due to high electricity demand and varying loads. Power systems always operate at their maximum stability limits, so there is a high risk of the system becoming unstable. In this chapter, a comparative analysis of voltage stability indices (VSIs) is presented. Voltage stability indices can be utilized to identify the most critical bus and region that are prone to voltage collapse when there is variation in load. Two system-variable-based VSIs, namely the “Fast Voltage Stability Index” (FVSI) and the “New Voltage Stability Index” (NVSI), are tested for varying active and reactive power load in an IEEE6 bus system developed in the POWER WORLD simulator.
