The development of high-quality broodstock and ensuring the health of seed is vital for the success of shrimp aquaculture. Issues such as poor seed quality and inadequate management of broodstock sourcing can result in disease outbreak to disease outbreaks. Utilizing quality broodstock generated through selective breeding programs has helped to mitigate risks associated with disease and instability. The process of screening broodstock involves a rigorous quarantine procedure to guarantee the introduction of only healthy individuals into breeding programs. Once acclimatized, healthy broodstock can proceed to the maturation phase, where facilities are optimized for commercial postlarvae production and genetic control. Additionally, ensuring proper nutrition and environmental conditions is crucial for successful broodstock maturation. Water treatment is particularly important in providing high-quality seawater necessary for successful maturation and spawning in captivity. With advancements in broodstock nutrition and genetic/molecular breeding techniques, penaeid shrimp broodstock production has emerged as a multimillion-dollar industry within the global shrimp sector. The present chapter deals with the broodstock development and management of penaeid shrimps.
