This case aims to explore and analyse crowd management techniques during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. The case presents an overview of crowd management practices and description of the FIFA World Cup: The 22nd Edition, then delves on analysing technological, logistical, cultural management practices highlighting benchmarking and collaborative practices deployed. The investigation presents insights on how crowd management and control system that relied on face recognition, abnormal event detection (AED) and artificial intelligence (AI) were employed and the impact of such technologies on crowd management. The case further explored the logistics plans that were undertaken through military and security support, infrastructure support and transportation support. The study concludes that managing millions of football spectators was a daunting task; however, the State of Qatar successfully managed a diverse crowd during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. The SC was tasked with host country planning and operations and was responsible for working with national stakeholders to deliver the fundamental infrastructure to ensure delivery of legacy results by the Qatari government.
