Taxonomy of Family: Mayoviridae
摘要
The family Mayoviridae includes plant viruses with a bi-segmented and positive-sensed single-stranded RNA genome. The family includes two genera, Idaeovirus and Pteridovirus. The family has been named after Michael A. Mayo (1944–2008) who did extensive studies on raspberry bushy stunt virus, and a new family name Mayoviridae was coined in his honor and to recognize his contributions to this field. Dr. Mayo’s work helped us understand the mechanism of replication and organization of the genome of raspberry bushy dwarf virus, type member of the genus Idaeovirus (Valverde and Sabanadzovic 2009).
