Smart Message Conveying Medical Device for the Paralytic/Specially Abled Patients
摘要
Patients suffering from partial paralysis or other disabilities that impair their muscle movements and restrict their ability to express their basic needs face a huge challenge to communicate in their daily lives. Hence, it is essential that they are given a means to relay their messages with ease without having to invest any major amount of capital. The authors have developed a device that helps these people to communicate simply by moving a part of their body. Their body movements are sensed by means of an accelerometer and based on their requirements, certain messages are communicated via RF frequency through LoRa technology. The device has two major components: the transmitter and the receiver. The transmitter has been made to be lightweight, battery operated, portable and wearable. It is intended to be mounted onto the movable part of the patient’s body. On the other hand, the receiver has been made to behave like a base station for receiving signals from the transmitter and relaying the corresponding messages to the concerned person. In this work, our main aim is to provide a solution for individuals with physical disabilities, and offering them the ability to effectively convey their needs and emotions. The paper presents the experimental results obtained while testing the device and aims to advocate the need for such assistive devices that improve the lives of specially abled people.
