The rise of smart home automation has revolutionized daily life through wireless sensor networks (WSNs), controlling aspects like lighting, climate, and security. This paper delves into the impact of WSN topologies and communication protocols on smart home automation, specifically highlighting the Mesh-based topology and Thread protocol. Mesh topology allows flexible communication, enabling self-organization and healing. The thread, designed for low-power IoT devices, ensures secure communication atop IEEE802.15.4. Comparing with other protocols like LoRa, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Zigbee, and Z-Wave, our study addresses the question: “How does Mesh with Thread compare for smart home automation?” Evaluation criteria include network coverage, reliability, energy efficiency, scalability, and cost. This research contributes insights into WSN strengths and weaknesses, aiding decision-making for smart home applications. Identified gaps and future directions offer valuable guidance for researchers and practitioners.

摘要
