Transportation sector accounts for 23% of the total global carbon dioxide emissions making it a growing area of study and research. To identify factors contributing to carbon emissions in transportation sector, we performed bibliometric analysis for the period 2010 to 2023 through extensive literature analysis. Vehicle age, vehicle type and weight, type of fuel, and terrain travelled are some of the factors that have been identified. In addition, we analysed the contribution of countries and performance of keywords. China, the United States, and the United Kingdom were the top three countries with the greatest number of publications between 2010 and 2023 which is shown using density visualization. Through network visualization of keyword analysis, it was found that keywords such as carbon dioxide, emission control, carbon emissions, and transportation are in trend. This study also presents and highlights technology-based solutions to reduce carbon emissions in transportation sector.
