Rhizoctonia aerial blight (RAB) is a significant disease that results in significant crop loss in the leading soybean-producing nations. This disease is caused by the Rhizoctonia solani Kuhn fungus (also known as Thanatephorus cucumeris (Frank) Donk in its teleomorph form), which is a necrotrophic pathogen that can survive in the soil for extended periods under unfavourable conditions. Moreover, it is known to cause diseases in several vital crops across the globe. Aerial blight starts with inoculum infecting soybean seedlings, stems, and closed canopy; the fungus progresses rapidly from plant to plant, forming web-like fungal structures on affected plant tissues. Crop age, relative humidity, and atmospheric temperature play crucial roles in the rapid development of RAB throughout the cropping season. The disease is difficult to manage by using host resistance as most soybean genotypes are sensitive, and no actual resistance has been reported till now. However, applying bioagents and fungicides could limit disease progression under field conditions. Effective disease management strategies rely on understanding pathogen survival, inoculum dispersal, host ranges, disease initiation and symptom recognition, and epidemiology. Therefore, all these have been described herewith, based on available information, regarding RAB disease in soybean from a global perspective. This chapter also covers the status of work done for managing RAB in soybean across the countries.
