Chinese Tradition and Eco-civilization
摘要
This chapter examines the concept of eco-civilization in the context of Chinese traditional values and the overarching framework of socialism with Chinese characteristics. It argues that the eco-civilization model is not merely a contemporary adaptation but an essential part of Chinese cultural identity, deeply rooted in the nation’s historical, ethical, and philosophical teachings. The discussion highlights how traditional Chinese philosophies like Confucianism, Taoism, and Buddhism inherently support ecological principles and how these can be integrated into modern environmental strategies. By contrasting Western industrial civilization with Chinese traditional views, the chapter proposes that China’s unique approach to balancing human and nature relations could offer a sustainable model for addressing global environmental crises. The chapter further explores how China’s cultural resilience and philosophical depth can contribute to a global eco-civilization, emphasizing harmony, balance, and inclusiveness as key elements.
