The concept of ecological civilization represents a significant theoretical milestone in the current phase of human societal development. Serving as the central tenet of a modern civilization paradigm, this concept not only signifies a critical reevaluation and advancement beyond industrial civilization but also deeply intertwines traditional Chinese philosophical insights with the scientific perspective of Marxist development. Its essence encompasses various dimensions, such as restructuring the human-nature relationship, transforming development patterns, and reshaping ecological ethical values, including core principles like ecological equality, sustainable development, ecosystem integrity and diversity, and ecological ethical values. The emergence of ecological civilization offers fresh opportunities and orientations for educational innovation, fostering not only the evolution of educational philosophies and the enhancement and redefinition of educational objectives but also the enrichment of educational content, the stimulation of innovative teaching methodologies, and the advancement of educational practices. The concept of ecological civilization can be deeply integrated into education from the following four dimensions: first, intensifying teacher training to elevate their ecological awareness; second, refining the curriculum to incorporate ecological knowledge; third, revising the educational assessment system to emphasize ecological criteria; and fourth, strengthening collaboration between schools and families to create a cohesive force in ecological education. These initiatives aim to thoroughly cultivate and enhance teachers’ and students’ ecological civilization literacy, aligning with the demands of educational progress in the new era.
