In recent years, there has been a growing awareness about the importance of education in promoting sustainableDevelopment development and reducing poverty, among marginalized communitiesCommunity particularly the BalmikiBalmiki casteCaste in rural areas of HaryanaHaryana. The study uses primary data collected from selected villages of the JhajjarJhajjar district during the period of February-April 2022. Gender disparityGender disparity in literacy rateLiteracy rate and level of educational attainmentEducational attainment up to the levels of post-graduation, among the BalmikiBalmiki caste, have been identified. It has been found that about 92% of males and 89% of females got anEducation education up to senior secondary levels among the Balmiki caste. The JhajjarJhajjar district exhibits a gender disparityGender disparity of 0.11 points. The highest gender disparityGender disparity is observed in the village Jahangirpur (0.44) at the level of ‘senior secondary’, while it is lowest in the village Silana at the level of ‘post-graduation’ (4.04). Further, the highest disparity is recorded at the level of ‘senior secondary’, while it is lowest at the level of graduation among the BalmikiBalmiki caste in the JhajjarJhajjar district. The study concludes that females are significantly lagging behind males across various levels of educational attainment except up to ‘graduation level’ among the BalmikiCaste caste in JhajjarJhajjar district.
