Diagnostic US involves the use of a medical ultrasound diagnostic instrument by a medical worker to scan the human body. Analog images of human organs and tissues are obtained for observation, and pathological or physiological judgments are made based on these observations. This diagnostic technique can be used to discover new lesions. B-mode US is currently the most widely used US examination. US, X-ray, computer tomography (CT) scan, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are the four major radiographic techniques. US diagnosis is simple, fast, noninvasive and painless, cheap, and easily popularized. It is the most widely known and accepted radiographic examination. US is not only used for diagnostic purposes but is also vital in preventive health care. US plays an irreplaceable role in disease screening in the community, especially in the follow-up of patients with chronic liver disease and identification of early stage HCC.
