Nitrogen vacancies (NVs) in nanodiamonds (NDs) are highly photostable and nontoxic. The energy dependence of fluorescence lifetimes of different charge states of NVs has been investigated. The decay rate has been found to decrease with increase in the emission wavelength. When NDs are coupled with a single microcavity, sharp peaks, known as whispering gallery modes (WGMs), are observed in the emission spectrum. This study will be useful in sensing, single-photon emission and biomedical applications.
