Introduction to Wind Farm Micro-siting
摘要
Global interest in green energy harvesting has surged due to its immense potential in generating electricity and reducing reliance on depleting fossil fuels to satisfy our energy needs. Amidst various forms of renewables, wind energy is one of the most extensively tapped, emerging, and economically profitable energy source. Despite its ongoing massive implementation, there is a huge scope for improving the current practice of wind farm layout design, as harvesting wind energy through wind farms involves a lot of contributing factors. This chapter presents a brief overview of the wind farm layout design task and the challenges involved in attaining the task goals. After motivating the reader about micro-siting, a detailed survey of different methods adopted in the literature, including the heuristic, meta-heuristic, single/multi-objective optimization, and machine learning, towards achieving efficient micro-siting, considering several practical aspects, is presented. Additionally, discussions on research gap areas and avenues for advancements in current state of the art are presented. Finally, the approach adopted in several chapters of this book covering basic building blocks of understanding micro-siting concepts is also outlined.
