Future Perspectives of Silk Fibroin
摘要
Through this book we have already seen that over last few decades silk-based biomaterials have witnessed a huge amount of growth specifically in the domains of healthcare, flexible electronics, and environmental applications. Despite significant strides in silk chemistry, ongoing advancements in methods of modification, material processing techniques, and design strategies are continually evolving. Even though silk has significant strides through academic research, it still lags behind, when it comes to the commercialization, attributed to their lower repeatability which mainly stems from the sensitivity of silk to atmospheric parameters and lack of established standard procedure for rearing and isolation of silk fibroin. This chapter provides a conclusive discussion of the growth of silk till date and the areas that needs further attention in order to bring the silk fibroin to the mainstream.
