Agent generally refers to a computing entity that resides in a certain environment, can continuously and autonomously play a role, and has characteristics such as residency, responsiveness, sociality, and proactivity. Any entity that can interact with the environment can be abstracted as an agent. A single agent typically exhibits the most basic characteristics of autonomy, social ability, responsiveness, foresight, and rationality. Since John McCarthy proposed the concept of “artificial intelligence” in 1956, the concept of agents has been on the rise. Before the 1970s, agents were almost always studied as individual entities. In 1978, the US Department of Defense focused on building a multiagent system at a distributed sensor network seminar held at Carnegie Mellon University. A multiagent system is a collection of multiple agents that communicate and collaborate with each other, as well as with the environment, to jointly solve problems that a single agent cannot solve. Subsequently, multiagent systems are widely discussed in different branches of the field.
