A Study on Physical Fitness and Cognitive Status of Adult Bengalee Males Undergoing Training in Football
摘要
Physical exercising is a subcategory of physical activity that may be defined as a structured type of activity for making body parts conditioned to do a specific kind of physical activity. On the other hand, cognitive ability is defined as the ability of doing any tasks related to different kinds of mental processes involving intelligence, rapid response, visualization, memory, and perception. Football is a worldwide played sport that requires moderate to high-intensity activities along with enormous physical fitness and cognitive abilities mainly attention capability during the match. In this backdrop, a work was carried out on 35 randomly selected adult Bengalee male individuals of age range of 18–22 years undergoing training in football with a minimum experience of playing football for at least six years and practicing it about six days a week with a duration of two hours without having any chronic disease history (self-reported); they basically formed the Football Practicing Group (FG). Different tests including 50-yard dash, standing broad jump test, and vertical jump test were conducted to assess their physical fitness level, and trail making test (TMT) and D-KEFS design fluency task (DFT) were administered to assess their cognitive ability. In the same manner, assessments were also carried out on 40 adult Bengalee individuals of comparable age, similar socioeconomic and ethnic background without formal training in any form of exercise including football; they constituted the control group (CG). It was seen from the results that FG individuals have significantly (P < 0.05) better physical fitness and cognitive ability level compared to their CG counterparts.
