Stabilizing Soil Slope by Geosynthetic Reinforcement: A Review of Its Different Types, Interaction Mechanism, and Behavior

Geosynthetics, such as geotextiles, geogrids, geocells, geocomposites, and geofoams, strengthen soil, improve structural stability, and reduce erosion hazards. This literature review explores the many categories of geosynthetics, their interactions with soil, and the resulting behaviors that aid in slope stabilization. The discussion also included geosynthetics's design, application, and environmental impact in civil engineering. The text emphasizes the significance of geosynthetics in advancing sustainable construction methods, tackling environmental issues, and pioneering solutions for upcoming challenges. Although there are benefits, the study recognizes the difficulties associated with material deterioration, installation and upkeep, the diversity of soil characteristics, and insufficient research to support a more dependable utilization in specific applications. This review contributes substantially to the subject by highlighting areas lacking research, proposing possible paths for future studies, and emphasizing the significance of geosynthetics in stabilizing soil slopes and promoting sustainable engineering practices.
