The analysis of the experimental data reveals several key findings. Firstly, the coefficient of discharge (Cd) demonstrates an inverse proportionality to the crest height (p) for a specific combination of water head (h), vertex angle (ϴ), and slope (S) for both upstream and downstream orientations of the weir opening, as well as for a straight weir. The Cd exhibits a nonlinear increase with the augmentation of the vertex angle (ϴ) for a given set of h and S and a nonlinear decrease in Cd is observed with an increase in the water head (h) for a fixed combination of ϴ and S, irrespective of the weir opening orientation in. Cd demonstrates a linear increase with the channel bed slope for a specific combination of h, ϴ, and p, for both the orientation and Cd for a weir opening facing u/s is slightly lower than that for the weir opening facing d/s.

摘要

A weir, a diminutive dam, is ingeniously constructed orthogonal to the stream's width, meticulously designed to modulate both the hydrodynamic attributes of water flow and the vertical elevation of the upstream water level in an open channel. Within open channels, weirs function as hydraulic structures serving the dual roles of flow regulation and measurement of flow. Specifically, weirs with well-designed plan forms have historically been effective increasing discharge efficiency with low operative head compared to linear weir. This research paper divulges the outcomes of a systematic experimental inquiry into the influence of distinct parameters, namely water head over the weir crest (h), bed slope (s), vertex angle (ϴ), crest height (P), and the orientation of the weir opening, on the coefficient of discharge for a V-shaped sharp-crested weir in plan form. The experimentation transpired within a rectangular flume, equipped with adjustable slope features. A comprehensive set of runs encompassed 12 variations of h, 4 permutations of P, 6 instances of ϴ, and 4 scenarios of slope, incorporating two orientations of the weir opening, directed upstream and downstream.
