Acute Vision Loss
摘要
Acute vision loss requires urgent evaluation and referral, as it may result from serious conditions such as cerebrovascular accidents (CVA), acute angle-closure glaucoma, trauma, retinal artery occlusion, or giant cell arteritis. Clinical presentation varies with lesion location and may include cortical blindness, gaze abnormalities, or systemic stroke symptoms. Initial management depends on the cause and may involve protective eye measures, irrigation, or pharmacological treatment (e.g., acetazolamide, mannitol, corticosteroids). Chemical injuries demand immediate irrigation, while suspected GCA requires prompt corticosteroid therapy prior to biopsy confirmation. Timely referral to ophthalmology and appropriate specialist services is essential to preserve vision and prevent complications.
