Acute Exacerbation of Bronchial Asthma
摘要
Asthma exacerbations are acute episodes of worsening symptoms, including cough, wheeze, chest tightness, and breathlessness. Early recognition through patient education and monitoring peak expiratory flow rate (PEFR) is essential. Risk stratification—based on clinical signs, oxygen saturation, PEFR, and mental status—guides severity assessment. Management includes rapid-acting bronchodilators, systemic corticosteroids, and oxygen therapy as needed. Criteria for discharge include symptom improvement, normalized vitals, and PEFR >60% of predicted. Post-discharge care involves reliever/controller inhalers, oral steroids, adherence checks, and follow-up within 2–7 days to reassess control, optimize treatment, and update the asthma action plan.
