Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia
摘要
Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is a common, age-related non-cancerous enlargement of the prostate causing lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS). Symptoms are categorized as obstructive (e.g., weak stream, hesitancy) or irritative (e.g., urgency, frequency). The International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS) aids in assessing severity and treatment need. Investigations help exclude differentials like infection or malignancy. Management depends on symptom severity and impact on quality of life—ranging from lifestyle changes to pharmacotherapy (alpha-blockers, 5-ARIs) and, if needed, surgery. Regular monitoring with IPSS guides ongoing care. No preventive therapy exists, but combination treatment helps slow progression and improve long-term outcome.
