Vaccination in Children
摘要
Childhood vaccines protect against serious infectious diseases and are administered on a structured schedule. Key vaccines include BCG (tuberculosis), Hepatitis B and A, DTP (diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis), MMR, Hib, pneumococcal, HPV, polio, varicella zoster, influenza, rotavirus, and meningococcal. Most are given via intramuscular injection, though rotavirus is oral. Some require multiple doses across infancy to adolescence. Vaccination is adjusted based on age, medical conditions (e.g., immunosuppression, HIV, asplenia), travel, or outbreak exposure. Contraindications include severe allergic reactions, immunodeficiency (for live vaccines), or acute illness. Vaccines are generally well tolerated with mild local or systemic side effects. This chapter provides an overview of common vaccines and vaccination strategies that can be used in an outpatient setting.
