A 61-year-old male patient with a history of hypertension and hyperuricemia was admitted with elevated serum creatinine on March 18, 2019. In January 2019, physical examination revealed a creatinine of 248 μmol/L, uric acid of 0.63 mmol/L, and hemoglobin of 86 g/L. There was no hematuria, foamy urine or decreased urine output, fever, nausea, low back pain, edema, or other symptoms and no further examination or treatment. In February 2019, the patient visited our outpatient clinic for follow-up, and reexamination showed a creatinine concentration of 220 μmol/L and a urinary microalbumin/creatinine ratio of 58.45 mg/g. On inquiry of his medical history, the patient had a creatinine level of 77 μmol/L during physical examination in May 2018. In November 2018, he underwent enteroscopy and oral sodium phosphate for bowel preparation. To further clarify the cause of the patient’s abnormal renal function, no anemia-related treatment was administered before hospitalization.
