Spodumene (LiAl[Si 2O 6] or Li 2O·Al 2O 3·4SiO 2) is a lithium aluminum silicate with a chain structure. Spodumene exists in α, β, and γ phases. When not specified, it usually refers to α-spodumene. In the mineral crystallochemical classification, spodumene belongs to the silicates, the chain silicate subclass, the pyroxene group, and the clinopyroxene subgroup. In mineral material science, in the structural-functional classification of mineral raw materials, spodumene belongs to the one-dimensional structural mineral category and the subcategory of non-functional minerals (chemical minerals).
