Global agricultural production is severely hampered and substantial yearly losses are sustained as a result of plant diseases resulting from bacterial infections. Consistently successful control of these diseases may be exceedingly challenging to achieve, especially when growers rely on highly disease-susceptible cultivars in response to market demands and when climatic circumstances favor the growth of pathogens. However, there is a broad list of bacterial disease concerns for which there are few effective treatment alternatives, including both new and emergent diseases (like potato’s zebra chip) and old problems in new geographical locations (like kiwifruit’s bacterial canker in New Zealand). Due to a growing human population and decreasing farmland, there’s an urgent necessity for enhanced food production on a stable, reliable basis. The discovery and implementation of sustainable disease control strategies for bacterial infections is a crucial component in ensuring the long-term viability of agricultural production systems that consistently provide high yields. Additionally, due to the rising development of resistance to conventional bactericides, the discovery of innovative management techniques has come to the forefront. There are a variety of growing research emphases that will serve as a solid foundation for future bacterial disease management. These include fundamental research to discover essential pathogen targets for control, innovative approaches, and ways of administration. This chapter discusses a variety of innovative approaches now being utilized to manage microbial diseases in crops to maximize the growth of a sustainable and efficient food supply.

摘要
