Vehicle volume and speed are primary data supported for solving most traffic problems. In most cases, the data is collected on the site through a video recorder and the extraction is done by playing the video using a computer. The extraction through the manual process is tedious and time-consuming. In this study, an Intersection Volume Extractor tool was developed to simplify the extraction process complexity. The Intersection Volume Extractor has a built-in video player with custom control, which helps in moving the player control to different time levels. The statistical test performance on using the tool and manual extraction shows there is a significant difference in the time taken for data extraction. Further, the average time taken during extraction is very high in the case of the manual method, which significantly decreases by using the software tool. The study result shows that the time saving during the data extraction process is more than 50% with respect to manual data extraction. The reliability test is done to check the operational error in the software, and it is clear that the tool is consistent in all circumstances. Also, it is noted the time taken in the data extraction process will vary based on the type of person involved in the extraction process.

摘要
