Throughout history, microbes and minerals have coexisted and interacted in various ways. Microbe–mineral interactions occur in a subtle yet significant way. These interactions can have both positive and negative consequences. Minerals can provide microbes with the necessary nutrients, energy, and physical defense, but they can also cause harm through oxidative stress and toxic materials. Meanwhile, microbes can influence the transformation, precipitation, and dissolution of minerals, leading to biomineralization that is either managed genetically or induced by metabolism. These reactions can also change the mobility of metals, causing heavy metals and radionuclides to detach. Ultimately, microbe–mineral interaction plays a pivotal role in environmental fluctuations, the emergence of ore deposits, and the biogeochemical cycling of elements. Microbe–mineral interaction is crucial to shaping our world.
