Chapter Two focuses on the staging and chronology of archaeological cultures in the Liaoxi Mountainous Region. The Weiyingzi culture is dated to the late Shang period, with its temporal scope not extending beyond the early Western Zhou period. The Upper Xiajiadian culture is defined to be a relic from the early Western Zhou period to the late Spring and Autumn period, ranging from the late Shang period to the late Spring and Autumn period. It is proposed that the “Tiejianggou remains” and “Jinggouzi remains” belong to the same cultural category, contemporaneous with the “Shuiquan remains” and “Wudaohezi remains”. The “Linghe remains” are divided into early and late phases, corresponding respectively to the Upper Xiajiadian culture and the “Shuiquan remains”. The eight cultural remains in this area are divided into six stages of the Xia period (early Lower Xiajiadian culture), the early Shang period (late Lower Xiajiadian culture), the late Shang period (the Weiyingzi culture), the early Western Zhou period to the late Spring and Autumn period (the Upper Xiajiadian culture and early “Linghe remains”), the early and middle Warring States period (the “Shuiquan remains”, the “Jinggouzi remains” including “Tiejianggou remains”, “Wudaohezi remains”, and late “Linghe Remains”) and the late Warring States period (the Yan culture).
