Macropinocytosis is an actin-driven and fluid-phase endocytosis in which actin reorganization induces ruffling of the plasma membrane and engulfment of extracellular solutes into the cell. In this chapter, we will briefly summarize the contribution of macropinocytosis to the cellular uptake of extracellular fine particles. We also present examples of macropinocytosis-related cellular uptake pathways that we have found in our uptake studies of extracellular proteins and fine particles.
