Electric vehicles(EV) are becoming more and more significant because, in addition to reducing noise and pollution, they may also accustomed to lessen the overdependence of transportation on crude oil, provided that the required energy is produced from sources other than crude oil. The power consumption by the EV motor plays a crucial role for selection of suitable rated battery system. The power requirement also different under drivetrain condition. In this paper, the power requirement of electric vehicle under different types of forces acting on the vehicle is examined. The effect of mass and weight of the vehicle on the performance of the EV is also studied. To carry out this study, parameters of general motor (GM EV1) model are used. The complete system is simulated in MATLAB/SIMULINK platform.
