Effect of 2D Roughness on Heat Transfer in Rayleigh–Bénard Convection
摘要
The present study shows the effect of 2D boundary roughness on heat transfer in Rayleigh–Bénard convection (RBC). The non-dimensional heat transfer characterized by the Nusselt number \(Nu\) is computed for Rayleigh number \(Ra = 1.96 \times 10^{5}\) . The heat transfer ( \(Nu\) ) is observed to be decreased ( \(\approx 25\%\) ) due to sinusoidal horizontal rough walls in comparison with that for smooth horizontal walls. The suppression of the heat transfer is attributed to the larger thermal resistance offered by the thicker thermal boundary layer near the top and bottom sinusoidal rough walls as compared to that by the thermal boundary layer for smooth walls.
