Tribological Behaviour of DC, Pulse and Reverse-Pulse Deposited Ni–Co–P Alloy Film

Investigating and comparing the tribological behaviours of Ni–Co–P alloy coatings formed using constant DC, pulsed and reverse-pulse current electroplating processes are the primary goals of this work. Such electroformed coatings underwent microhardness, scratch hardness and pin on disc tribo testing at room temperature without lubricants. The findings demonstrated that the pulsed and reverse-pulse deposited Ni–Co–P coating has significantly lower surface roughness, higher scratch hardness and higher microhardness than the Ni–Co–P coating that was applied using direct current. The analysis further shows pulsed and reverse-pulse deposited coating exhibits lower average coefficient of friction and wear rate than the DC deposited ones.
